HYDERABAD, May 12: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday said that his son, who is booked in a POCSO case, told him that he committed no wrongdoing. His son should be punished if he is guilty, the BJP leader said.
Addressing a Hindu Ekta Yatra in his home town Karimnagar, he said an attempt is being made to portray his son as a criminal which pained him.
“My son said he made no mistake. He said ‘we were friends, later split’. He said he made no mistake and would come out of this with honesty. I am not defending him. Whoever makes mistake, including my son, all are equal before law. If my son made a mistake, 100 per cent he should be punished,” he said.
Asserting that he would not be cowed down, Kumar said he would not spare anyone who troubled him, his party, activists and “dragged his family to the road” through their conspiracies.
He drew an analogy with Lord Hanuman who performed ‘Lanka Dahan’ when his tail was set on fire.
He said he would tour entire Telangana to mobilize public opinion against those who allegedly made conspiracies against him.
In a veiled attack on BRS, he said he would call on the families of 29 Intermediate (12th grade) students who committed suicides after they failed in exams when the regional party was in power.
He also said he did not give adequate time to his son as he treated the party activists as his own family and that his wife was feeling distressed following the allegations.
The case was registered against Sanjay Kumar’s son, Bhageertath on May 8 based on a complaint by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, who alleged that the accused was in a relationship with her daughter and sexually harassed her.
The alleged relationship began about seven-eight months ago, police said.
Kumar’s son had denied the charge and filed a complaint with Karimnagar police, alleging extortion and criminal intimidation by the teen and her parents. (PTI)
