JAMMU, June 8: Retired Special Police Officers (SPOs) today staged protest demonstration at Press Club Jammu for their retirement benefits, here today.
The protest was organised under the leadership of Sewa Singh Bali, president All India Voice for Poor and general secretary of Panthers Trade Union (PTU).
“They had served the Police department for many years and were involved in many anti terrorist operations and even sacrificed their lives while discharging their duty but the Police Department instead of rewarding them, retired without paying them any pension/ gratuity,” said Bali while addressing the protestors.
Bali further said that such senior citizen/employees were ineligible to take up any work due to their age factor and left them at mercy of God for their survival.
He demanded that their grievance for payment of retirement benefits should be redressed by the Govt at the earliest as these SPOs were eligible to take all the benefits at par with constables of the Police department.
