PRP holds convention, pledges to work for peace

SRINAGAR, Sept 23: People’s Republican Party (PRP) held a one day convention here today to discuss the prevailing political situation in the State.
The convention was attended by senior leaders of the Party and accused the coalition of its total failure in addressing the problems of the people especially the flood victims, traders, labourers, daily wage workers as well as Government employees.
The meeting said that on the one hand the State is facing severe economic crisis and the salaries of many employees, daily wagers are not drawn from months together while the flood victims have been deprived of the relief till date the Government is making lavish expenditures on luxury things.
The PRP chief spokesman, Mir Ghulam Rasool said the meeting took serious exception to Government decision of purchasing luxurious cars for Legislators on which over Rs 11 crore will be spent while it has no money to release the GP fund of the retired employees or pay compensation to flood victims.  The meeting said that instead of spending on such unproductive works the Government should pay attention to basic issues facing the people in the State. He said PRP has also resolved not to ally with any political outfit but continue to work independently for the cause of the people all three regions of the State.
During the convention a fervent appeal was made to the people of the State not to get provoked by vested elements and maintain age old brotherhood and amity at all costs. The members took a solemn pledge to work for peace in the State.
