SRINAGAR, May 20: People’s Republican Party (PRP) has demanded proper transport facilities be provided in the Ganderbal district as the people were facing many hardships due to lack of transport facilities.
In a statement issued here today PRP chief Mir Ghulam Rasool said that the students in the district are put to hardships due to lack of transport facilities and present unrest in the Ganderbal township was one the result of the same.
He said two days back when students from Vakura who could not get a bus to board for college were forced to travel on its roof as no transport facility was available in the area. After the bus reached near Tulmulla it was stopped by police and driver was challaned. The students traveling on the roof of bus came down and requested the concerned cops not to challan the driver as they forced him because no bus was available to them and they were getting late to college. However the cops thrashed the students who after reaching the college narrated the same to their colleagues which resulted into the strike in the college and protest on road.
Mir said had the administration taken a lenient view the situation could have been saved from taking a critical turn. The insensitiveness on the part of administration has added fuel to fire, he added.
He urged the government to look into problems of the people so that they are not misled by the vested elements hell bent on disturbing the peace in the State. Mir also made a special appeal to Chief Minister in this regard.
