JAMMU, Feb 9: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU)- Social, has urged upon the State Government to provide reservation quota out of the seats of MLCs in the Upper House of the Legislature to the members of OBC community.
In a meeting of the Union held here today under the chairmanship of Abdul Majid Malik, the speakers pointed out that under Art 50 of J&K Constitution and Art 171 of Indian Constitution, the MLCs and MPs seats for Rajya Sabha cannot be distributed among the politicians as they have no legal right for such seats.
Rules and directions of Under Art 50 of J&K Constitution and Art 171 of Indian Constitution must be adhered while allotting MLC seats. According to both the constitutions, MLCs and Rajya Sabha seats are only meant for those sections of the society and social workers, who cannot afford to contest the Assembly as well as the Lok Sabha elections.
