JAMMU, June 25: A delegation of Jammu West Assembly Movement led by Sunil Dimple, president, submitted a memorandum of demands through Chief Engineer PHE Department to State Government, warning it that acute scarcity of drinking water will not be tolerated.
Sunil Dimple said Sushil Aima CE PHE stated that the Amaranth Yatra is starting, the tourists season on and people are coming to Vaishno Devi Yatra, so they all should not face drinking water problems at any cost.
He alleged that people do not get drinking water as there is no timing of water supply and added that the 30 to 40 years old pipes are over loaded with the connections and are in defunct conditions, as a result most contaminated water is being supplied to the residents of the Jammu city and the West Assembly constituency.
Dimple warned Government not to install the water meters on the water connections and withdraw the increased water tariff immediately.
He demanded “free of cost” supply of water and purchase of more water tankers for the Jammu city as the present number of the tankers is not sufficient.
Chief Engineer assured that the memorandum will be submitted to the Government, quality drinking water provided and all the leakages and defunct pipes will be removed.
Sunil Dimple also warned to start the Jan Andolan against the abandoning of the Chenab water supply project.
