JAMMU, Dec 20: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee today projected the demand of providing 8 Assembly seats to the DPs of POJK out of 24 seats reserved for them.
A one day conference of Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 from POK was held in Jammu today, therein JKSAC leaders raised this demand. The delegates from all the districts of Jammu Province participated.
Sant Tejwant Singh of Dera Sant Pura Danna and Mahant Swami Balbir Dass also participated in the conference and showered their blessings. Besides, prominent leaders from BJP Dr Narinder Singh (National gen secy), Vikram Randhawa (former MLC) and Paramjeet Singh were invited in the conference.
While addressing the conference Gurdev Singh, president apprised delegates about basic issues concerning their final settlement such as compensation for left-out properties, reservation for our wards in employment / academic/ technical institutions and share of assembly seats and besides other such issues awaiting redressal from several decades. He said that past govts of J&K and Centre though provided some relief which was insufficient but even that was taken back by other hand.
He said employment package or any kind of reservation was provided to wards of DPs till today. Their constitutional share of assembly seats have been freezed with the result that they have been deprived to represent the aspirations of their people.
The possession of allotted lands have not been handed over to hundreds of DPs families till today despite of having many laws framed by govt. The land under DPs dwelling have not been mutated/registered in their names till today, with the result that they cannot sale or mortgage as per their needs. They are not being paid rent of the lands forcefully and illegally occupied by Army in Jammu province.
Expressing gratitude to PM Modi and his govt for providing ex-gratia relief of Rs 5.5 lakhs to each DP family, he regretted that out of 26,319 PoK families, relief has only been provided to approx. 21,000 families and over 5000 families are still pending as the scheme has been closed in mid-way. He appealed to both the senior leaders and other BJP leaders present in the conference to take-up all the DPs issues with PM including implementation of Joint Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs Report No. 183.
While addressing the conference both the senior BJP leaders Dr Narinder Singh and Vikram Singh Randhawa said that they being sons of DPs community they are seized of all the issues concerning the DPs and are committed to take-up the same with the Central Govt. They said Govt was very keen to resolve the issues as per the JPC report.
