Srinagar, Dec 7: Scores of people from Naira and Tahab villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today staged a protest and blocked road against the “massive” power curtailment.
The protesters of these villages assembled at Naira, the native village of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth leader and Political Analyst to Chief Minister Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, and erected barricaded on Pulwama- Lassipora Road.
The protesters shouted slogans against Government and demanded an end to massive curtailment. Ghulam Ahmad, a protester, said that they are subjected to 22 hour curtailment by Power Development Department (PDD) every day. “We only see electricity for two hours in 24 hours. This is torturous and painful in winter,” he said.
The protesters lashed out at ruling coalition including PDP over load shedding. “At the time elections they (PDP) promised us uninterrupted power supply and other facilities. But once in power they forgot their promises and left people at God’s mercy,” said a protester, Ishfaq Ahmad.
The protesters blocked the Pulwama-Lassipora road for nearly four hours, resulting in complete halt of vehicles’ movement. However despite protest and road block no civil official rushed to the spot to pacify protesters and it was only after local Station House Officer’s intervention that the agitators called-off their protest.
