JAMMU, Aug 19: The irate people today blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at three places in protest against their various problems. While the students of Higher Secondary School Koota staged a protest demonstration and blocked the National Highway in protest against the shortage of computer lecturer in the School, the students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Samba also protested against the shortage of lecturers in the School and staged a protest at National Highway at Samba. Another protest was held by the irate residents of Barnoti who too blocked Jammu- Pathankote National Highway in protest against the power failure in the area.
The hundreds of students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Samba today staged a protest demonstration against shortage of teachers. The students boycotted their classes and moved out on the Jammu Pathankot National Highway. They raised slogans demanding appointment of teachers in the school. Later the students held a dharna in front of tehsil office to lodge their protest before the Tehsildar.
The students said that due to the shortage of staff in the school, classes are not being taken for studies. “We were forced to lodge a protest as despite our repeated requests for the appointment of teachers, no step has been taken so far” they added.
“There is no Botany teacher in the Higher Secondary School for the last two months. We are facing innumerable problems which are affecting our studies. We appeal the Education Department to look into the matter and take immediate measures in this regard,” said Suman Devi, a student.
Later, Chief Education Officer, Mangal Dev reached the spot and pacified the students and assured necessary action in the matter.
To pacify the protesting students at Koota, who blocked the National Highway for three hours, the SDM Hiranagar, Sohan Lal Sharma visited the spot and appealed the students to lift the NH blockade as he will take the issue with Higher authorities of Education Department and efforts will be made for early posting of lecturer in the School. On this assurance the students lifted the Highway blockade.
The irate people at Barnoti who protested against the power failure in the area blocked the National Highway for two and half hours. The protesters alleged that the power transformer which has developed a snag over one month back has not been restored till date forcing people to take to streets and block NH.
However the blockade was later lifted by the protestors on the assurance of police.
