Protest against Sarpanch’s arrest, road blocked

NOWSHERA, July 7: The people from Chityari and adjoining areas held protest demonstration against Chingus police and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway near Chingus today.
Reports said about 150 people from village Chityari came out on busy highway at around 5.30 pm this evening and raised barricades. The area falls under Chingus police post. The people alleged that incharge Chingus police post SI Irfan Wani allegedly  arrested Sarpanch Zamal Choudhary without any case. They demanded that SI be removed and inquiry be initiated against him.
The people were raising slogans against police demanding immediate removal of  the SI.  Sources said that the Sarpanch Andruth village, Zamal Choudhary had gone to Police Station, Rajouri today for some work. From there, SI Irfan took the Sarpanch in his own  Gypsy to Police Post Chingus and placed him under detention. He was also allegedly abused by the Incharge Police Post Chingus, who allegedly detained him without any case.
The villagers then came to know about the matter and they moved to the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway and raised barricades. They suspended the movement of traffic at around 5.30 pm. They started raising slogans against police. Later, SHO Rajouri,  Yash Jamwal reached the spot and tried to convince the people. He also told public that there was no serious case against the Sarpanch and he was called for some inquiry matter. The cops later let off the Sarpanch and the agitating people lifted dharna at around 7 pm. He also assured inquiry into the matter.
