JAMMU, Feb 21: The workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena (DFSS) under the leadership of their president Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally in Satwari area against high prices of petrol, diesel and LPG.
Ashok Gupta was leading the protest rally by riding on a bullock cart. The protesting workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena were carrying empty LPG cylinders with them.
Addressing the protestors, Gupta said high prices of petrol and diesel has forced the people to ride bicycle and abandon their 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers. He said the LPG cylinder prices have been hiked by Rs 50 this month and in last 3 months by Rs 125 which had dented the budget of the common man and poor people.
He further stated that the Central Government is taking excise duty of Rs 32 on one litre of petrol/diesel and the UT Government is also charging equal amount of VAT on petrol and diesel due to which price of petrol and diesel is touching sky.
“Central and State taxes make up for 60% of the retail selling price of petrol and over 54% of diesel. Petrol prices with additives has crossed broken the psychological Rs 100 per litre mark in different parts of the country as oil marketing companies continue with their daily price hike for auto fuels in wake of heated up global oil market,” Gupta said, adding, it was a collective duty to work towards lowering the prices so that the common man can get respite.
