JAMMU, May 11: Scores of people belonging to Scheduled Caste community today held a protest against atrocities on dalits, in front of Press Club, Jammu.
Raising slogans against the Central and UP Governments, the people of Schedule Caste communities said that atrocities against dalits have increased in the country and recent one has happened yesterday in UP, where a dalit named Sachin Walia was killed by unknown persons in a celebration program of Maharana Pratap.
They urged the Central Government to make proper laws for the safety of the dalits and ensure that those who are involved in these subversive acts get stringent punishment under law. “We demand a judicial probe into the incident”, they added.
The protesting people said that if the Government did not step up and took actions to stop the caste-related violence, they will have no option other than taking to streets against the Government.
Advocate Ashok Basotra, Advocate Pawan Kundal, Gurbaksh, Vicky, Anil Boudh, Rajeev Bhagat and Sonu participated in the protest.
