KATHUA, July 15: Irate residents of  Dinga Amb and adjoining areas today held massive demonstration and blocked  Jammu-Dyalachak-Billawar  road for over two and half hours to lodge their protest against the water crisis in the area.
The villagers led by Sarpanch Kuldip Gupta  and other Panchs and elderly villagers including Lamberdar Dhruv Singh, Kalidas (Panch) came out on the road at around 7 am today and raised barricades. They started massive protest demonstration against the PHE Department  and the district administration. They shouted slogans against Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, SE PHE  and Executive Engineer, Kathua and his staff for negligence and paying no attention towards the genuine drinking water problem of over 4000 souls of the area including Dinga Amb, Garh, Balote, Sarah, Malini, Dunga etc.
The villagers alleged that in last three weeks, the pump and motor at the local pumping/ tube well  station at Tarnah bank went out of order seven times and hardly two or three times in last 21 days, the water supply was provided by the department. They said every now and then the motor goes out of order. No alternate arrangement of  water supply through tankers is provided to the public in this Kandi belt. No body listens and  even the tehsil and district administration has shut its eyes. The people have been forced to come out on the road to protest for water.
The vehicular traffic came to grinding halt  on busy Billawar road with the public protest.  SHO Hiranagar, Naib Tehsildar, AEE Mechanical and AEE PHE Civil Hiranagar later rushed to the spot. They persuaded the villagers to lift `dharna’ and allow traffic movement. The PHE officers assured to restore supply by tomorrow and also keep a stand by motor at the pumping station within couple of days.  The public then lifted dharna and allowed traffic movement.
