KATHUA, Aug 27: The protest by civil society against the pollution causing industries here today entered into day 6.
The protesters, mostly women, gathered at Hatli Morh in industrial area wearing masks over their faces and raised slogans against district administration, District Industrial Centre, Pollution Control Board and pollution causing industries.
The protesters were carrying placards with texts like ‘Save Environment, Save Lives’ written on them.
Addressing the protesters Municipal Councillor, Randheer Singh said that cement and tyre manufacturing industries in the area are threatening human health by releasing harmful smoke etc into the air.
He also said that air, water and noise pollution levels in the area have reached critical limits and demanded that such industries should be shifted from human populated areas to somewhere else.
The protesters threatened to block the National Highway if the concerned authorities failed to take cognisance of violations of norms by the erring industries
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Seema, Preeti Sharma, Balbir Singh and Rajesh Mehta.
