Sir,
With reference to editorial “Heritage sites’ published in this paper Aug 1st, I would like to express that the Heritage sites of Jammu remained badly neglected and the day is not far when these most important connecting links of our glorious past will be available in ruins only and we will teach history with the picture story method that there was a Royal Palace called ‘Mubarak Mandi’ Question arises that where is the Royal Palace of Basholi ? Where is the capital city and sky-touching palaces of Jasrota State? I would also like to ask why the Royal Palace of Chenani was acquired by the Govt over a minor fire incident and totally dismantled merely for the construction of a Tehsil building. The Royal Chenani Palace of Chandervanshi Kings belonged to early medieval period and it was in remarkable position upto shooting of famous Hindi film ‘Jaani Dushman”. In addition to it, there exists one ancient temple of ‘Mata Jalandhra” in village Laddan (Udhampur). This temple seems to have been built in eighth century when Chenani country/State was established. The architectural built- up of this temple matches with great temples of Chandel Dynasty kings and the temple of this style, shape, beauty and imagination is not available anywhere in J&K State. There is ancient ‘Fort of Kotli ” adjoining this temple which is visible from national highway. This fort was constructed by famous Raja Dayal Chand of Chenani. Although temple and fort have been declared protected monuments but not a single rupee has been spent for their renovation. Moreover there are no signs of ‘Chorgala’ Fort in village Mada on the border of Chenani and Bhuti States. The famous Dhar Shivgarh Fort built by Chenani Kings and described in history books has become thing of the Past. This is the picture of heritage sites of a small area. What about entire Jammu ?
Yours etc….
