JAMMU, Jan 8: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, R S Jain acquitted two Mumbai based narco smugglers namely Rajjak Sheikh and Mohd Naushad as the evidence led on record by the prosecution was not sufficient to bring home the guilt of the accused for the offence punishable under NDPSA.
According to the case, on September 30, 2012, secret information was received from reliable source by Satish Kumar Sharma, Intelligence Officer of NCB Jammu that accused persons would be transporting charas from Kashmir valley to Jammu and are likely to stay at New Laxmi Hotel, Chand Nagar, Jammu.
On October 1, 2012 NCB team reached the hotel and recovered over three kilograms of charas from the possession of accused persons. After completion of investigation challan was presented in the court of law.
“The evidence led on record by the prosecution is not sufficient to bring home the guilt of the accused for the offence punishable under NDPS Act, for which they were charged. Accused are therefore, acquitted”, the court said.
