Properties of drug peddlers attached in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 30: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, Police today intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking across Kashmir by attaching properties linked to narcotics cases, arresting drug peddlers, destroying illicit poppy cultivation and conducting inspections of medical shops.
A police spokesperson said Srinagar Police attached properties worth around Rs.2 crore belonging to alleged drug peddlers in Bemina and Karnah under the provisions of the NDPS Act. In Shopian, another property worth Rs. 22.35 lakh was attached after investigations revealed it had been acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking.
In Kulgam, police attached two residential houses worth over Rs 1.02 crore belonging to Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Kujjar Frisal, Yaripora, and Feroze Ahmad Khan of Munnad, Yaripora. The properties were attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after being identified as assets acquired through proceeds generated from illegal drug trade.
Police also destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in Gund area of Ganderbal and in Kokernag area of Anantnag, registering cases under the NDPS Act and launching further investigations.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said three drug peddlers were arrested in separate operations in Ganderbal and Handwara. Contraband substances, including heroin-like substance, charas-like substance and Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules, were recovered from their possession. Police arrested Aubaid Ahmad Dar alias Ubi of Nowpora, Tulmullah, in Ganderbal and recovered approximately 11.10 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
As part of preventive measures, the spokesperson said Sopore Police conducted surprise inspections of medical shops and chemists in the Tarzoo area. “Records relating to the sale of scheduled drugs, psychotropic substances and other medicines were checked, while shopkeepers were directed to strictly follow legal provisions and prescription norms,” spokesperson said.
