Srinagar, June 11: Police in Handwara today attached properties worth lakhs belonging to two notorious drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities stated that, in compliance with the stipulated legal provisions, Police Station Qalamabad, under the supervision of senior police officials, attached an immovable property owned by Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Late Ab Ahad Bhat, resident of Jandipora Maratgam.
The property, as per police, includes a plot of land with a raised plinth, and the action was taken under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in connection with case FIR No. 47/2024 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Qalamabad.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the said property was acquired through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities. The accused, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, is currently lodged in District Jail Kupwara in the same case,” police said.
The other case involved the attachment of two commercial shops along with the land situated at Main Market Handwara under the NDPS Act.
As per authorities, the property belongs to Javaid Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Razaq Sofi, resident of Khunbal Handwara.
“The attachment was executed in the presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class Handwara in connection with Case FIR No. 193/2024 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Handwara,” police said.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the said property was acquired through proceeds generated from illegal narcotics trade, they said.
“The accused is also involved in Case FIR No. 266/2022 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Handwara,” police said.
