JAMMU, Sept. 23: Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansathan Trust president Mahant Rohit Shastri, Jyotishacharya, along with other Trust members called on senior BJP leader Devendra Singh Rana in Jammu and presented him the book entitled “Saral Sanskrit Bodh”.
During interaction Shastri said that just as the Government gives state awards to the sportspersons who excel in sports, the Government should give “State Award” to the Sanskrit scholars of the state also who make excellent contribution in the field of Sanskrit language. He suggested that the Government should start “Dr Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak Sanskrit Samman’ (State Award) in the name of the famous Sanskrit scholar Late Dr Uttam Chand Shastri Pathak,” on the lines of Sanskrit award given by the Government of Rajasthan.
He also said that a Sanskrit Ministry should be established in Jammu and Kashmir also. Sanskrit language should be made compulsory in the first class in the schools of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu Kashmir Sanskrit Academy and Jammu Kashmir Sanskrit Institute should be established on the lines of Uttar Pradesh. Posts in Vedic Studies in Higher Education should be filled up. `Devvani’ Sanskrit should also get a special status like other languages.
He further demanded that Sanskrit scholars should get reservation quota in scholarship and jobs etc. He said that the land of Jammu and Kashmir has been the eternal Centre of Shaiva philosophy. It is the sacred land of Acharya Abhinavagupta, the founder of Pratyabhijnadarshan, great poet Kalhan, great poet Vilhan, and many ancient Sanskrit sages. The Acharyas who, through their penance in the form of work, had paved the way for unifying not only India but also the entire world, the same sacred Jammu and Kashmir Vasundhara is losing the great legacy of Sanskrit today.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP leader Devendra Singh Rana assured Mahant Rohit Shastri that he would definitely consider the above issue seriously and present the demands of Mahant Rohit Shastri before the government. He said that if Bharat has to become a Vishwa Guru, then there is a need to develop the knowledge of Vedas and the divine Sanskrit language.
Trust member Councillor Narottam Sharma, Jagdev Singh Chib, Naresh Raina and other distinguished citizens were present on this occasion.
