This refers to the decision of the Government to put Ladakh on the pilgrim tourism circuit in view of a large number of monasteries in the region.
The region has indeed great pilgrims tourism potential as it is dotted with numerous Gumpas and Stupas of great importance. Lamayuru, Alchi, Hemis Gumpas are known throughout the world. Tourists especially from foreign countries are attracted by these symbols of faith.
As Buddists are spread throughout the world, it would of great help if these places of pilgrimage are promoted among them through electronic and print media.
There is also need to protest these shrines from Vagaries of weather. For this purpose sufficient funds should be provided to them.
To achieve the objective of promoting this kind of pilgrimage, it is necessary to create proper infrastructure at these places. The Tourism Department should frame a policy in this regard.
