Promote Dogri language

Sir,
I would like to express the importance of promoting Dogri language through the medium of this newspaper. Dogri language is one of the Union Territory language of Jammu and Kashmir. It is an Indo-Aryan language which is broken by 2.6 million of people of Jammu region according to the report of 2011 Census. This language is formely treated as a Punjabi dialect. It is now considered as a member of the Western Pahari group of languages. Dogri is tonat a trail at shares with other western Pahari languages and Punbaji. Official recognition of this language has been gradual, but it is progressive one. General Council of Sahitya Academy, New Delhi on 2 August 1969 recognised Dogri as an “Independent Modern Literacy Language.” In a milestone on 22 December 2003, Dogri language was recognised as a National language of India when it found place in 8th schedule of Indian Constitution. Although Dogri programming features regularly on Radio Kashmir a Division of All India Radio Broadcasts in Jammu and Kashmir. However, Dogri does not have a dedicated Union Territory Channel yet, unlike Kashmiri which has the Doordarshan Koshur Channel, available on cable and satellite television throughout the length and breadth of India. It is the high time that every single individual associated with the language needs to come together for its promotion not preservation. At present when mother language of all region have been suffering from the invasion of English or Hindi, the writers and artists involved in saving the mother tongues from extinction rather than claim and blame game. Last but not least, the need of hour is the talents ready to work with a mission without involving self into it. It seems that mother struggle has to be carried on for saving mother tongue. Every Dogri lover should realize that it is the high time they should take an oath not merely for public consumption but within from the core of heart that they will put in their best efforts to work for the survival of Dogri. As far as individual efforts are concerned, they should realize that charity begins at home.
