JAMMU, June 5: Sushma Choudhary, Senior Vice President, Association for Social Health in India (ASHI) stressed the importance of women education and promoting adult literacy for achieving balanced growth and development.
She was speaking at a function organized by Association for Social Health in India (ASHI) on ”Women and Children Meet” on the concluding day of World Environment Day at Government High School Dhammi village in Dansal block as chief guest, here today.
Chief Education Officer, Tarseem Lal Bhagat, Cultural Officer Information Department Raman Joshi besides senior members of ASHI included Prof Indira Rathore, S K Koul, Veena Handa, Sunita, Shveta, Chattoo, Raj Sharma, Ruby Sharma and Nasreen Khan were also present on the occasion.
She said that sustained advancement of women’s education is essential for promoting the general health of the society and pointed out that an educated girl is an asset for her family as well as of the society to which she belongs.
Ms. Choudhary observed that not only women but the entire adult population at large, which is still deprived of the benefits of education, should put their foot forward to gain literacy as it is never too late to get educated. She said that a well informed citizen always holds a balanced opinion and contributes towards the development of the society.
Sushma Choudhary and Tarsem Lal Bhagat also distributed free uniforms among 500 students and 50 desks were also provided to facilitate the students.
Earlier, a colourful cultural programme by artists Jeevan Sharma, Vijay Anand, Sunil Sharma, Surjit Singh Sumbaria, Zulikha Farid, Bunty Kumar, Kamal Kumar and Bodh Raj of cultural wing of Information Department and the students of the School was presented on the occasion.
