JAMMU, Mar 7:  A delegation of progressive farmers, led by Ranjit Singh Chib, president Vegetable Growers Association of J&K State, called on former Minister and NCP State president Thakur Randhir Singh and apprised him of their issues concerning irrigation of agricultural land.
Demanding opening of the Ranbir canal before 15th March, the farmers alleged irregularities in its annual cleansing. The canal has failed to irrigate the tail ends inspite of digging of tubewells and spending crores of rupees, they said.
The former Minister, after listening to the delegations, appealed Governor N N Vohra and Advisor Khurshid Ahmed Ganai to intervene immediately and ensure proper maintenance of the canal by breaking nexus between engineers and contractors.
