JAMMU, Jan 19: The School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized an expert lecture on “Smart Grid features in Conventional and Renewable Power Systems” by Prof Ramesh Bansal, Professor and Group Head (Power) in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Prof  Bansal spoke about challenges of  conversional and renewable power systems including improvement of efficiency of coal based power plants through minimizing slugging and fouling, power system control of hybrid systems, and use of clean renewable DG energy sources (wind, PV, etc) to reduce CO2 emissions and minimise energy losses.
He also elaborated upon the latest trends in power generation and distribution including generation through small clean Distributed Generations (DGs) energy sources to minimise energy losses. Also power demand for isolated communities is met through hybrid power systems (wind-diesel, wind-PV-diesel, etc) to utilise renewable energy sources and minimise diesel fuel costs.
The School of E&CE regularly organizes expert lectures and workshops in leading research and technology areas to ensure that the students of B Tech, M Tech  & Ph D  program are kept abreast of the latest research.
Earlier, Professor Bansal was welcomed by Director, School of E&CE and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr  Rakesh K  Jha, Asstt Professor who along with  Sachin Gupta, Asstt Professor and  Ashish Suri, Asstt  Professor, coordinated the visit.
