Prof Yash Pal gets Dr SK Shome Memorial Award

JAMMU Nov 25: The Mycological Society of India has awarded Dr S K Shome Memorial Award 2018 to
Prof Yash Pal Sharma, former Head of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, for his outstanding scientific contributions to the field of Mycology.
The award was presented to Prof Sharma during the recently held International Symposium on Fungal Biology: Advances, Applications and Conservation & 45th Annual meeting of the Mycological Society of India, organized by National Fungal Collection of India (DST National Facility), Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, India.
During the event, Prof Sharma also delivered Dr S K Shome Memorial award lecture on ‘Ethnomycological based mycochemical profiling of some wild edible mushrooms in Jammu and Kashmir, India’ which was attended by more than 200 mycologists from India and abroad including world renowned mycologist Prof David L Hawksworth and Prof Petricia Witshire (Forensic mycologist) of Comparative Plant and Fungal Biology, Royal Botanic Garden, Kew, UK, Dr Amiel Buyck (Mushroom Expert), National Mycological Herbarium, France.
