JAMMU, Sept 30: Prof Pankaj Shrivastva of the Department of Geology has been elected as President of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA), elections which were held today.
In a straight contest, he defeated Prof Vibhakar Mansotra with a margin of 62 votes. Prof Pankaj Shrivastva secured 145 votes while Prof Mansotra was polled 83 votes.
For the post of Vice-President, Dr Manoj Bhat of the Department of Economics was declared elected. He secured 117 votes while his opponent Vijay Sehgal was polled 107 votes.
In the multi corner-contest for the post of Secretary, Dr Ravinder Singh of English Department defeated his nearest rival Dr Vijay Kumar Shivgotra with a margin of seven votes. Dr Ravinder got 91 votes while his opponent Vijay Kumar Shivgotra was polled 84 votes, Dr Meghna Dhar 12 votes and Dr Sikander Pal 39 votes.
Dr Yudhvir Singh of the Department of Geology was elected as Joint Secretary. He defeated Dr Manoj Bhat with a margin of 78 votes. Dr Yudhvir Singh was polled 152 votes while Dr Manoj Bhat got 74 votes.
Dr Sushanta Kumar Panda of the Department of Education was already declared elected unopposed for the post of Treasurer.
