KOLKATA, Nov 5:- Prof Rattan Lal Hangloo, a well known academician and Professor of History Central University, Hyderabad was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University West Bengal- a famous institutions of higher learning in Science, Arts, Humanities, Engineering, Agriculture Science and varied other disciplines on November 4.
A state subject of J&K, Prof Hangloo is from village Hangalgund, in South Kashmir district of Anantnag who did his MA in History form University of Kashmir and M. Phil and Ph. D from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi. He started his career from Kashmir University.
Prof Hangloo was offered this position for being an eminent academician and great administrator with positive outlook. He has been awarded several fellowships, which include a senior Fulbright Bright Fellowship by USA, Fellowship by Germany, visiting fellowship twice by Maison des Sciences Del Home of Paris (FMHS) France.
A visiting professor of several universities including University of Delaware (USA), Michigan USA, Heidelberg, Bamberg Germany, Berlin Germany, Ashgabat University, Turkmenistan, Tbilisi University Georgia etc Prof Hangloo steered India’s cultural diplomacy in various capacities.
He also headed the chair of Indian Studies at Tbilisi University Georgia and at University of West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago.
Earlier he served as Dean, School Relations Central University of Punjab, Chief Proctor, Head of Department of History for two terms, Chairman Central Disciplinary and Grievances Committee, Chief Coordinator of Universities with potential of excellence programme of University Grants Commission Central University Hyderabad.
A author of over one dozen books on varied subjects and over 100 papers, Prof Hangloo, was also a member of Academic Council of United Nations System, at Yale University, USA for two years. He was also Chancellor’s nominee to Kashmir University for two terms.
