Prof, doc, Delhi, UP women; Pharmacist among 28 succumb to COVID in Jammu

JAMMU, May 2: Forty one more persons died of COVID-19 and 3571 tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir today. Jammu region recorded 28 deaths, 11 of them women, and 1150 cases.

Among the dead were a doctor, two women from New Delhi and Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), a Pharmacist of District Hospital Samba, an official of Railways Company hailing from Andhra Pradesh and a 26-year-old youth.
Another Judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, a KAS officer posted as Block Development Officer (BDO) at Bhagwa in Doda and three officials each from Crime Branch and State Bank of India (SBI) Head Office tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu today. Few days back, a retired Judge of the High Court and his family were infected while prior to that another serving Judge had tested positive for the virus.
A 47-year-old Associate Professor in Sociology Department at National Institute of Education, Planning and Administration (NEIPA) New Delhi hailing from Janipura Jammu died of Coronavirus in New Delhi today, reports said.
A 44-year-old woman from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh presently putting up at Banihal in Ramban district and 73-year-old woman from New Delhi, who was residing at Channi Himmat Jammu, succumbed to the virus.
A 40-year-old Accounts Manager with Navyug Railways Company working on rail construction work died of COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. He belonged to Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
A 68-year-old doctor from Janipura died of COVID Pneumonia and respiratory failure in the GMC Jammu while 26-year-old youth from Dessa Ghat in Doda district breathed his last because of Coronavirus in the GMC Doda. He had no other ailment. A 57-year-old Pharmacist from Ramgarh, who was posted in the District Hospital Samba, passed away in the GMC Jammu. He was co-morbid and positive for pathogen. A 35-year-old woman from Canal Road died of virus in the GMC Jammu.
An all-time high three COVID casualties were reported in a single day from RS Pura today including 40-year-old man from Satraiyan, 43-year-old from Kotli Arjun Singh and a 55-year-old man from the town.
Four Corona fatalities were reported from Samba including 52-year-old woman from Bari Barahamana, 48-year-old man from Vijaypur and 74-year-old male from village Drui besides the Pharmacist of the District Hospital.
Other deaths due to Coronavirus include 55-year-old woman from Raghunath Bazaar, 58-year-old woman from Charak Enclave Bahu, 72-year-old woman from Nanak Nagar, 74-year-old man from Kanji House, 55-year-old male from RS Pura, 75-year-old woman from Roop Nagar, 73-year-old man Manyal Barahamana Marh, 83-year-old woman from Bhawani Vihar Trikuta Nagar, 57-year-old man from Sainik Colony, 50-year-old man from Basant Vihar Trikuta Nagar and 69-year-old man from Rampura Gandhi Nagar, all in Jammu district.
Three deaths from Rajouri include a 60-year-old woman from Manjakote, 53-year-old man from Ghambir Mughlan and 80-year-old man from the town.
A 75-year-old male from near Head Post Office Udhampur and 65-year-old from Reasi were among the COVID victims. The Udhampur man had undergone head surgery and became COVID positive during the treatment.
Among 1150 fresh COVID cases in the Jammu region, 486 were reported in Jammu district, 162 Rajouri, 120 Kathua, 115 Samba, 105 Udhampur, 45 Poonch, 38 Reasi, 34 Ramban, 25 Doda and 20 in Kishtwar district.
Jammu region now has 71905 Corona cases. Number of active cases has surged to 11690 while 59269 have recovered from the virus and there have been 946 casualties.
The casualties include 510 in Jammu district, 69 Rajouri, 68 each Udhampur and Doda, 65 Kathua, 59 Samba, 37 Poonch, 28 Ramban, 22 Kishtwar and 20 in Reasi district.
In the Union Territory of Ladakh, one COVID death and 117 new cases were reported today.
A 70-year-old woman from Chusod died of Coronavirus in Leh district taking the UT’s Corona toll to 144—100 in Leh and 44 in Kargil.
Of 1178 new cases, 99 were recorded in Leh and 18 in Kargil.
