Srinagar, July 5: Government today informed the Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court that appointment of Chairperson and members of the State Human Rights Commission is under active consideration of the Government and in this regard process has been initiated.
The State Counsel produced a copy of Government order whereby it is stated that a process for appointment of Chairperson for SHRC and its members has already been initiated and in this regard a meeting of selection committee is being convened very shortly for making the necessary recommendation.
Court has taken the order on record and also sought personal appearance of Law Secretary as he was directed to appear in person in terms of previous order but he did not chose to do so. “Order dated 1.6.2016 has not been complied with and hence Law Secretary to appear in person alongwith implementation order and records”, Division Bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey said.
Court has taken suo-moto note of non-compliance of judgment regarding appointment of chairperson and members of State Human Rights Commission which was passed last year and till date the SHRC is defunct.
It may be mentioned here that the then Advocate General of the State last year had informed the court that immediately after the committee meeting to appoint the Chairman and members of the State Accountability Commission, the meeting for selection of the chairperson and the member of SHRC will also be convened.
But till date no compliance has been filed before the court in this regard which prompted the court to take further course of action against the respondent-State except the order whereby only process has been taken.
