JAMMU, July 18: The Government today ordered an independent inquiry into falling of large number of electric poles, erected by IRCON, resulting into prolonged snapping of electricity supply in many parts of Jammu during windstorm.
Official sources said Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who holds the charge of Power Development Department, has asked PDD Commissioner/Secretary Dheeraj Gupta to order independent inquiry into falling of electric poles, raised by the IRCON, which had been assigned the task of erecting new poles and lay cable.
“The inquiry committee should have no link either with IRCON or with PDD,” Dr Singh said, adding the inquiry should be conducted in time-bound manner.
It may be mentioned here that during recent windstorm, a large number of newly erected electric poles by IRCON had been uprooted, leading to disruption of electric supply in many parts of Jammu for several hours and in some localities for days together.
