Proactive approach, harsh measures protect Reasi from Covid-19: DC

REASI, Apr 20: Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib today participated in a webinar by SKOCH group to share her experience of containing the spread of coronavirus in the district and successfully keeping it free from infection.
DC presented detailed presentation in which she thoroughly explained all the steps taken by the district administration to prevent spread of the dreaded Coronavirus in the district.
She said that vigilant background check of yatris coming to Mata Vaishno Devi yatra had begun from March 1, well in advance . All borders with adjoining districts had been manned by police personnel and check posts installed at all 6 routes towards Reasi. Details of incoming persons and their vehicle were noted and consolidated every day.
By March 30, village and urban surveillance committees had been constituted, which carried door-to-door surveillance of people in all 257 inhabited panchayats of the district, informed the DC. Each committee consists of 6 local members and each panchayat has two such committees; in addition to these, 26 Urban Surveillance Committees are working in urban areas of the district, she added. The DC said that a COVID Call Centre is observing working of all the committees, whose daily visits are geotagged and verified.
DC Indu Kanwal Chib also highlighted the role of opening markets in a staggered fashion to avoid sudden rush of people.
To efficiently redress multitude of public grievances, the district administration has set up various control rooms like COVID-19 Control Room, Red Cross Helpline, Administrative Control Room, Migrant Labour Control Room and Control Room for Essential Supplies, informed the DC. She also hoped to start Agriculture Control Room soon.
The role of women’s self help groups was also highlighted by the DC and she said that so far 1.75 lakh masks have been procured from such groups and 3 lakh face masks are expected to be procured from these groups at the earliest.
To address issues of migrant labourers, the District Migrant Cell is working at its best and issues are expected to be resolved at the earliest, assured the DC.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the role of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in providing around 1200 beds and food for quarantined people at Katra. Similarly, she appreciated organisations like the NHPC and various others for providing necessary infrastructure and other help to accommodate quarantined persons.
