JAMMU, Nov 6: Seeing dilapidated condition of Shaheedi Chowk rotary and defunct lying fountains, Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Department of Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today ordered its complete renovation and also released Rs 5.80 lakh from her Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for this purpose. To ensure early completion of work Priya Sethi in presence of MLA East Rajesh Gupta laid foundation stone of the work.
State vice president BJP, Yudhvir Sethi was also present on the occasion.
Priya directed Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to immediately take up renovation work in hand and complete it on war footing.
On the public demand, Priya Sethi also directed JMC authorities to convert this area into small well organised park so that people could sit there. Since fountain gets damaged on every season, on the demand of public it was decided that the area will be developed as a park. The Minister directed fixing benches, new steel grill, adequate lights and green patch to develop thus important rotary.
After laying foundation stone in front of JMC officials, local population besides shopkeepers of the area, Priya Sethi said such small yet important places must be developed on priority. She said Jammu is a historic city wherein every chowk, street, building or religious place has something to tell to the visitors. In such a situation the city needs to be made beautiful where people could find rest places, parks, gardens and recreational areas besides well developed religious places.
Priya in her address assured that each and every such point will be developed on modern lines to face lift city and add to its aesthetics. She said Shaheedi Chowk has historic importance and cannot be neglected. Since the area is located at very important intersection, it will be developed on war footings.
She also said that these works are being carried out in addition to the Smart City projects which will also be taken up separately. She said, BJP -PDP Government is committed to welfare of people and develop each and every town and village and such small yet important developmental works are as per will and wishes of local population.
MLA Rajesh Gupta in his address said that Jammu is a wonderful example of unity in diversity where people from all regions and religions live in perfect harmony. He said in the Jhiri Mela people from all the neighboring states come to pay their obeisance to the sacrifices of Baba Jitto. The time has come when we all have to put all developmental activities on a fast track and contribute in creating a modern infrastructure for Jammu.
