JAMMU, Aug 16: Power Employees Coordination Committee (PECC) comprising engineers and employees of J&K will extend support to the protest demonstration of National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers on August 18 seeking withdrawal of Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and to oppose privatization of electricity distribution in Union Territories.
PECC has appealed all PDD employees across J&K to observe peaceful protest on August 18 holding placards at their respective divisions to oppose the privatization move of the Government.
A handout stated that the placards will have anti-privatization slogans like ‘No Privatization, No Victimization’ on them.
It also stated that privatization of electricity is no way for power sector reforms rather it will impact adversely upon poor domestic consumers, medium and small industries and poor farmers.
“It seems the Central Government is out to destroy the power sector of the country despite the fact that during COVID-19 crisis, only the public sector companies have stood by the Government while private sector is nowhere visible in this tough time,” it further stated.
The handout also said that all power engineers and employees of J&K feel the proposed amendments are not backed by sufficient application of mind.
“The Centre should therefore refrain from going ahead with this amendment. J&K power employees oppose the proposal of Central Government’s move regarding privatization of DISCOMS in Union Territories,” it maintained.
Though PECC has sent memorandum to J&K LG and Ministry of Home Affairs yet no talks have been held with the employees on the issue of privatization till date.
