Private schools’ body flays winter vacation announcement

SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Private Schools United Front (PSUF) is angry with the Government’s “unilateral and unwise” decision to close down schools early this year without announcing incentives for flood-affected students.
“The decision is flawed. The concerned officials have broken all records of mismanagement,” said PSUF President G N Var, referring to the winter vacation announced by the Director School Education Mir Tariq Ali.
The director on Friday announced winter vacation in all Government and private schools from 24 of this month upto Class 8 and from December 8 upto 12th standard.
“They have set the opening date for schools as February 23. Till date there is no history of schools being opened in February which is part of bitter winter,” he said.
“Unfortunately winter vacations continue to be held hostage to the whims of certain officials who along with their families want to enjoy the warm weather of Jammu as soon as Durbar Move shifts”, he alleged.
The front termed the Government decision as a unilateral decision with no regards for public opinion. “They didn’t consult school heads or parents while deciding the vacations. No logical reason was given,” he said.
