Prisoner, 6 women among 15 die of COVID in Jammu; 554 test +ve

Patients in GMC & AHs down to one-third after a month
After SSH, PH; SMGS, one Ward in GMC being de-notified
Recoveries cross one lakh, active positive cases decline

JAMMU, June 3: A day after recording 40-day lowest seven deaths, COVID fatalities across Jammu region today against went up to 15 including an under-trial prisoner of District Jail Kathua and six women, while 554 persons tested positive for the virus.
However, COVID patients in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and Associated Hospitals reached 30-day low at 313 nearly one-third from 928 admissions when the second wave was at its peak in first week of May.
“In first week of May, number of COVID positive patients admitted in the GMC Jammu and its Associated Hospitals had reached 928. Today, it came down to 313, the lowest in a month,” GMC Principal Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma told the Excelsior.
While the Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) Resham Ghar and Psychiatric Hospital have been de-notified as COVID hospitals and will start regular OPDs and admissions of non-COVID patients shortly, SMGS hospital is also being de-notified tomorrow. Only two Wards (7 and 8) were dedicated COVID Wards in the SMGS hospital. Apart from it, Ward No. 15 of the GMC Jammu is being de-notified to switch over to non-COVID care in guarded and phased manner, Dr Sharma said, adding that internal assessment exams of MBBS students have been scheduled under all COVID SOPs after two weeks due to declining trend of the virus.
In another healthy sign, recoveries in Jammu region today crossed one lakh and stood at 1,00,419. Jammu region now has a total of 1,13,499 cases. Among them, 11133 are active positives as against 20000 plus about 10 days back while there have been 1947 casualties.
A 50-year-old under-trial prisoner Rajeev Pathania hailing from Ward No. 3 in Krishna Colony Kathua died of cardio pulmonary arrest and COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua today. He had tested positive for the virus during COVID testing drive undertaken in the District Jail Kathua by Jail Superintendent Rajni Sehgal on May 24. He was symptomatic and was shifted to the GMC Kathua where he succumbed to the virus early today. He was facing charges for murdering his wife in 2004.
Six women who died of Coronavirus include 74-year-old from Janipura, 50-year-old from Kunjwani, and 71-year-old of Roop Nagar, all in Jammu district, 81-year-old from Rakhjarog Batote in Ramban, 60-year-old from Chorakort in Reasi and 85-year-old from Kahara Thathri in Doda district.
Rest of the COVID casualties were reported from Miran Sahib, Nanak Nagar, Jeevan Nagar and Gangyal (Jammu district), Mulchiter Chatroo (Kishtwar), Vijaypur Camp (Samba), Kathua town and Kewal Kandi (Rajouri).
One more case of Mucromycosis or black fungus was reported today taking total cases to 13.
Fifteen fresh casualties have taken Corona toll in the region to 1947 including 1085 in Jammu district, 189 Rajouri, 137 Kathua, 126 Udhampur, 113 Samba, 91 Doda, 79 Poonch, 54 Ramban, 38 Reasi and 35 in Kishtwar district.
Among 554 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 today in the region, the highest 153 were reported from Jammu district followed by 92 Rajouri, 67 Doda, 56 Ramban, 55 Poonch, 46 Kathua, 25 Kishtwar, 27 Udhampur, 18 Reasi and 15 in Samba district.
Of 886 recoveries, 342 were registered in Jammu district, 162 Rajouri, 80 Samba, 79 Kathua, 75 Udhampur, 56 Doda, 48 Reasi, 31 Poonch and 13 in Ramban district.
Meanwhile, one person died and 91 tested positive for COVID-19 in the Union Territory of Ladakh today.
An 85-year-old man hailing from Saboo died of the virus in Leh district today taking Leh’s toll to 137 and that of Ladakh to 191. Remaining 54 casualties have taken place in Kargil.
Out of 91 positive cases, 73 were reported from Leh and 18 in Kargil.
With fresh cases, Ladakh’s Corona count has reached 18841. Of them, 1531 are active positive cases while 17119 have been treated.
