JAMMU, Nov 28: Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Atul Dulu, today inaugurated ‘Food Safety Mela’ here at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar.
The Mela part of Swasth Bharat Campaign launched by Food Safety wing of Drug and Food Control organization was organized by Food Safety team of Jammu led by Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety (Jammu Municipal limits), Dr Parvesh Kumar.
About 10 stalls were installed in the Mela to create awareness about Food Safety, checking of food adultration, what to eat or not, etc by Food Safety team, College students and an NGO “SAVE”. The Principal Secretary Health, who was the chief guest on the occasion, along with officers of Food safety team took a round of all the stalls.
Meanwhile, a poster competition and a cultural function were also organized at the venue. Students of various age groups participated in the poster competition managed by JKCCA and participants created various poster with the “Eat Right India”, theme. The whole program was jointly managed by the Food Science and Technology Department of GCW, Gandhi Nagar.
Earlier, Lotika Khajuria (Controller, Drug and Food Control Organization, J&K) presented welcome address. Special guest, AK Koul (Tribunal Judge) also shared his views on the Swasth Bharat Yatra.
Dr Abdul Kabir Dar (Commissi-oner, Food Safety J&K) gave a detailed presentation on the FSSAI Act and its concern areas. He further highlighted the importance of such campaigns in creating awareness among common masses about eating safe and hygienic food.
On the occasion, Jammu’s renowned singer, Sonali Dogra enthralled the audience with her mesmerizing performance. A stunning dance performance was also presented by the Natya Root Dance Group, Jammu. Students of GCW Parade also presented some cultural activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Atul Dulu highlighted the importance of Swasth Bharat Yatra and also assured the Food Safety officers his full cooperation in the near future for such initiatives.
Dr AC Mishra (Joint Director, FSSAI, New Delhi) briefed about the main slogans of the campaign like “Aaj Se Thoda Kam”, “Eat Fortified”, “Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy”, and “Eat nutritious and hygienic food” and also did the pledge ceremony along with the chief guest.
The function concluded with the memento distribution ceremony.
