JAMMU, Aug 3: Sundeep Kumar Nayak, Principal Secre-tary, Agriculture Produc-tion Department (APD), today visited SKUAST-Jammu to take stock of the University activities in the field of research, teaching and extension.
Sandeep Nayak and Prof Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, had an interactive meeting with the officers of University. In the meeting, the Principal Secretary was acquainted with the progress made by the university in developing technologies, academia and providing technological support to Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture departments since its establishment in 1999.
The Vice Chancellor gave an overview of the achievements of the University in the mandated fields. He informed that the farming system unit of the university was ranked number one in the country.
Principal Secretary assured all help to the University besides taking up of the matter for establishment of Faculty of Dairy Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Division of Seed Sciences & Technology with Government as these had been already approved by University Council and are pending with the Government. Regarding making land available for establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Samba, the Principal Secretary directed to take up the matter with Revenue authorities. He said that timings for extension activities have to be adjusted as per the time availability of farmers.
The Vice Chancellor also took up the matter regarding expediting the approval of the UGC Sixth Pay Commission’s Academic Perform-ance Indicator (API) score for teachers’ promotion and appointment that is lying with Agriculture Production Depart-ment.
The Principal Secretary also interacted with the fresher’s, admitted in the current academic session to different undergraduate professional courses, undergoing three days orientation programme.
Principal Secretary also visited different units of the university that include Faculty of Agriculture, Auditorium, Multiple Water Use Model for Wet Lands, Health Centre, Urja Hostel, Residential Complex, University Library, Seed Technology Lab, Examination Cell, Sports Complex, Seed Processing Unit, Experiential Learning unit on Mushroom Cultivation, Integrated farming System Research Model, Organic Research Farm and SAMETI Complex. Tomorrow, he would visit faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, R.S.Pura campus, nearby research stations and KVKs.
