Prez, Vice-Prez MC Pahalgam fall to ‘No Confidence Motion’

Srinagar, Mar 5: The p}resident and Vice President, Municipal Committee Pahalgam have lost the ‘No Confidence Motion’ that was passed against them by the Councillors.
In this regard, the Executive Officer Municipal Committee Pahalgam has written a letter to the District Election Officer, Anantnag seeking fresh election for the post of the President and the Vice President, Municipal Committee Pahalgam
“It is submitted that majority of newly elected ward members of Municipal Committee Pahalgam have moved a resolution on January 15, 2021, requiring the President and Vice President of the Municipality to vacate the office….,” the letter reads.
The Executive officer stated that a special meeting of all elected members of Municipal Committee Pahalgam was held in Town Hall Pahalgam today wherein 8 councillors out of the total 13 members were present.
“The motion of no-confidence was put to voting to show majority. The no-confidence motion was successful as all the 8 councillors present in the special meeting extended support to the motion. The President and Vice President failed to prove majority on the floor of the house in presence of observer Umar Gulzar, Tehsildar Pahalgam.”
As such, the Executive Officer stated, a vote no-confidence motion has been passed against the President and Vice President with the support of 8 councillors. “Hence Rayees Ahmad and Basit Magray lost their position as the President and Vice President Municipal Committee Pahalgam with immediate effect. The Councillors have demanded fresh election/ nomination to the seat of president and Vice President,” it said.
