NEW DELHI, Nov 14:
President Pranab Mukherjee today inaugurated the fortnight-long 34th India International Trade Fair, 2014 in the national capital.
One of the most awaited B2B and B2C events in Asia, the IITF was inaugurated at the Pragati Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global investment mantra ‘Make in India’ will be in focus at the fair. All Centre or states pavilions have been given a new look as per the theme of ‘Women Entrepreneurs.’ The gala trade fair also coincides with the Children’s Day, celebrated on the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru.
The IITF, ever since it started in 1980, has evolved as a major event for the business community. November 14-18 are earmarked for business visitors only while it will be opened for public from November 19. The fair will conclude on November 27.
It is organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation.
The Narendra Modi government’s cleanliness drive ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission among other social issues will also be in focus at the fair, an ITPO official said. This year, South Africa has been accorded the ‘Partner Country’ status.
Thailand is the ‘Focus Country’ and Delhi is ‘Focus State.’ The fair that provides a reliable and tested platform to small medium enterprises exporters, entrepreneurs and investors, holds tremendous significance for the business community which have a crucial role in sustainable, inclusive, job-led growth and development.
Various agencies have geared up to facilitate the different activities, pertaining to convenience and safety and security for a large number of participants and visitors from India and overseas.
Over 6,000 exhibitors from India and abroad are taking part in the fair.
Added attractions are the state day celebrations, music and dance programmes of classical and semi classical genre, geet, gazal, qawaali, street plays and puppet shows. The fair will remain open to visitors from 0930 hrs to 1930 hrs, on all days.
