JAMMU, June 1: J&K Prison Retired Employees Welfare Association (PREWA) today held a meeting here in District Jail under the chairmanship of Harish Kotwal, Superintendent, Jail, to highlight the demands of the retired prison employees.
All the participants made a strong plea to higher authorities of Prison Department to frame welfare rules for the retired prison personnel (both gazette and non-gazetted) on police pattern as envisaged in the Jail manual.
Krishan Singh, president, PREWA, while addressing the meeting sought amendment in the combatisation order so that clerical and other cadres are placed in the posts in the executive cadre and get pay package on police pattern. They also sought issuance of orders of appointments in respect of the wards of retired prison personnel selected long back.
PREWA president also stressed for release of 6% DA installment from January 2015 and enhancement of medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month. He also expressed serious concern that pre-2006 pensioners, who being aged and infirm deserve preferential treatment are feeling neglected because neither DA arrears for the period of January to June 2009 nor 4th and 5th installments of 6th CPC arrears have so far been paid to them.
The other speakers demanded that managers of J&K Bank branches from where the pensioners receive pension be authorized to conduct annual physical verification of pensioners to save them from the agonizing ordeal of obtaining PPP halfs from bank branches and thereafter go to treasury office for physical verification.
Harish Kotwal in his address, said that the retired prison personnel can come to his office for any kind of possible assistance. He also informed that three posts of Section Officers have been created for Central Jails of Jammu and Srinagar and District Jail, Jammu to streamline the work load.
