Preventing elder abuse every body’s responsibility: DIG

JAMMU, Oct 1: Help Age India organized signature campaign today at Women College Parade to mark International Day of Older Persons.
Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG  Jammu Samba Kathua was the chief guest.
The programme was inaugurated with the first signature of DIG followed by Dr. Hemla Agarwal, Principal Women College Parade Jammu and girl students of the college.
While speaking on the occasion, DIG said that each year number of older persons are abused, neglected and exploited. Many victims who are older and thus can’t help themselves and depend on others to meet their basic needs but young ones must understand that if they avoid taking proper care of their parents they will meet the same fate from their children. He further stated that modern concept of nuclear family is the root cause of elder abuse and thus civil society, teachers and parents could bring sea change in this regard to put an end to elder abuse.
