The 5th governing body meeting of Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society (MMJHS) held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister has made an assessment of the work done on the project of preservation of this historical heritage and also accorded sanction to new tasks to be undertaken for execution. Mubarak Mandi heritage complex is a big project which will take its time to fulfill the task assigned to it. The Department of Tourism and the Archaeological Survey of India are jointly executing the entire project under a well considered plan. The 5th governing body meeting took the decision of shifting of LT/HT lines and substation from the complex to the new identified site. The Chief Minister said that after ascertaining the feasibility the Power Development Department would take urgent steps in this regard.
Mubarak Mandi complex reflects a hundred years of the history of Dogra rule of the State. In fact it is the history of the making of modern State of Jammu and Kashmir. The rare and historical artifacts preserved in the complex museum are extremely useful for research scholars and historians as these reflect our past and remind us of the achievements of our ancestors. It gives a nation the sense of achievement and defines its personality. The Government should be complimented for keeping this rich heritage preserved for the posterity. However, in an earlier editorial in this paper, we have urged the Government to contemplate building of a new museum in Jammu on modern scientific lines to house all the rich treasure of our past heritage in the shape of artifacts, memorabilia, antiques and rarities that will perish if not preserved. It takes years and centuries to develop a museum and we should begin building one right now.
