JAMMU, Oct 3: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Tara Chand today accused the present dispensation of ignoring the downtrodden and depressed class of the society.
While addressing a one day convention of SCs/STs /OBCs/RBA/ALC/handicapped and other minority community members at Khour in Akhnoor Sub Division today, Tara Chand said that the present Government has totally ignored the burning and genuine demands of the reserved categories of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the present Government in strategic move has brought an end to the reservation in promotion which was benefiting these classes. He said that Congress has always supported the cause of these classes and through various amendments ensured that their fundamental and constitutional rights remain intact.
Tara Chand said that the present dispensation stands exposed as it has snatched away the constitutional rights of the depressed class of the society and is strategically moving ahead in ending reservation in jobs. He alleged that after ending reservation in promotion, the Government is working on ending reservation in jobs.
He further highlighted the fact that during the Congress-PDP and then Congress- NC coalition Governments several laws of reservation were passed and implemented including the reservation law of J&K and inter district recruitment policy. Thousands of aspiring youth of Jammu division got the benefits of these laws/ rules.
“Those who were humiliated and remained suppressed for hundreds of years need special treatment to come at par with the rest of the society and keeping in view a special provision of reservation in jobs and promotions was granted to them in Constitution. But the present dispensation is hell bent to abolish the same”, Tara Chand lamented.
He further said that the unemployment is all time high and the youth is frustrated as there are least avenue of employment. The Government rather than providing employment opportunities seem determined to snatch away employment of many by privatizing Government run departments where no job security is ensured.
Tara Chand further said that the Government has even failed to curb the inflation which has pushed these classes towards poverty.
