JAMMU, Jan 24: Martyr Sarvanand Koul Premi’s Translation of Ramayan in Kashmiri Language was today presented to Union Minister of State in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh by his son Rajinder Premi at New Delhi.
Rajinder Premi, while presenting book to Union Minister highlighted the contribution of martyr Premi towards art, literature, society and preservation of composite culture in the Valley. He said his father became an eyesore among the fundamentalist and separatists for propagating the ideology of composite culture and brotherhood among the Kashmiris.
The forces inimical to peace and brotherhood were so opposed to him that one day in 1990 when terrorism was on peak, they kidnapped Premi and his young son during night hours from their residence in Soaf Shali in Kokernag tehsil of Anantnag district of South Kashmir and next day after torturing them threw their bodies on a road side in Anantnag which frightened the minorities in the area.
Rajinder informed the Union Minister that successive Governments’ have failed to commemorate this true son of the J&K who had made significant contribution in varies fields of life and nurtured secular values throughout his life. He demanded a documentary be made on his life and contribution.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured him that he will take up the matter including the removal of encroachments from the land of late poet and writer with Lt Governor of the J&K.
