JAMMU, June 27:  Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries  (JCCI) today said that it was not practically possible to transact business in the J&K State without the implementation of Good and Services Tax (GST) from July Ist, 2017.
Addressing a press conference here today, the Jammu Chamber president Rakesh Gupta said that the Chamber is fully convinced that the  Govt shall implement GST   with effect from  July 1,2017 as it was not practically possible to transact business without implementation of GST from the proposed date.
He questioned the State Government as well as the politicians in opposition and the separatists camp  that how could be  business possible without GST and who shall be  responsible for the shortage of essential supplies  as well as the  hike in prices of everyday commodities due to double taxation.

The Chamber president advised  all the politicians whether in main stream or in separatists’  politics not to confuse the situation if they cannot help the situation otherwise, it will be total confusion and chaos in the State soon which is already in turmoil and more so, GST is a pure taxation reform which has nothing to do with the Constitution of J&K and also it is the first time that all the States of India have been granted financial autonomy by this Federal system of GST.
The Chamber extended gratitude to Union Finance Minister for expressing his serious concern for implementation of GST by sending a communication to the Chief Minister of J&K. JCCI  warned the `so called’ leaders posing themselves as leaders of trade and industry to desist from making any statements as they are not aware about the ground realities in this sensitive state.
Gupta said Chamber has been fully assured by the Finance Minister that the existing safeguards for the protection & prosperity of trade and industry shall be discussed and will be kept in mind while implementing GST. Chamber feels that some consensus will surely come out in the all party meet being convened tomorrow as it is a matter of tax reform.  The Chamber  is exercising restraint and not acting in any such manner which will affect the law and order situation and affect Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra
JCCI senior vice president Rajesh Gupta,  junior vice president  Rajeev Gupta, secretary general Manish Gupta, secretary  Gaurav Gupta and treasurer Ashu Gupta were also present on the occasion.
