JAMMU, Oct 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) today held a strong protest in all district headquarters’ of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh UT supporting the call of National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) and All India Power Engineers Federation(AIPEF) for nationwide protest against the midnight police action against protesting Electricity employees and engineers of the Pondicherry Electricity Department who were on peaceful work boycott for the last four days over the issue of privatization.
On the occasion Sachin Tickoo, convenor JKPEECC and president JKEEGA said the Pondicherry Electricity Department had invited request for proposal (RFP) on the 100 percent stake sale of the Electricity distribution network which had irked the thousands of the employees and engineers of the Electricity Department forcing them to proceed on work boycott and after four days of peaceful Satyagrah, the city was in darkness and administration instead of working towards resolution of the issue adopted the confrontation path with the protesting employees and initially arresting the employee leaders and later thousands of employees have court arrested.

While speaking at the protest venue, Jaipal Sharma Chairman JKPEECC and President DEA said the All India Power Engineers Federation Chairman, Shailendra Dubey is in Pondichery along with the other leaders of National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers and monitoring the situation. The call for observing National protest day today got massive support from power employees across the country with wide spread protests against the Police brutality across India.
The Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee appealed the Union Government to withdraw the privatization proposal in the Union Territory of Pondicherry and do not push the proposal in haste without taking the stakeholders on board. The Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 is already referred to standing committee for its observations and bypassing the said procedure and pushing the Privatisation of Electricity in Union Territories is unethical and against the constitution.
JKPEECC resolves to fight against any such move of privatization in Union territory and all the instructions and course of action as decided by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers shall be followed across the UT of J&K in letter and spirit and it calls upon all the employees and social organizations to protest against any such unilateral move of privatization of electricity.
Meanwhile, Power engineers across the country today observed “Black Day ” by holding demonstrations in support of Puducherry electricity workers and against the repressive attitude of the central government and Puducherry government.
In Jammu and Kashmir protest was held at Srinagar, Jammu, Sopore and Poonch under the banner of JK Electrical Engineers Graduates Association.
Srinagar meeting was addressed by Pirzada Hidayatulah.They all opposed the privatisation process undertaken by Puducherry governmnt and demanded immediate scrapping of the process.
V K Gupta spokesperson All India Power Engineers Federation informed on Monday that the last night the police tried to arrest the key office bearers of various unions at the protest meeting site in response to which more than 500 employees gave mass arrests at that time.
