JAMMU, May 25: Provincial Power Employees Union (PPEU) today urged upon the higher authorities in the organisation to provide masks, sanitizers and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to the power employees.
In a meeting of the Union held here today under the chairmanship of Shakti Gupta, in presence of senior members Sanjeev Bali (president), Ajaz Kazmi,Manjit Singh,Deep Mehra and others, the speakers expressed strong resentment over non-availability of requisite masks, sanitizers, PPE kits for the staff of the Power Development Department. They said the field staff of PDD is going to be next target of the deadly Covid-19, if left unattended for want of requisite personal protective gears. The Linemen, JEs, AEs, AEEs are continuously working under tough circumstances in the field, be it attending the faults, consumer complaints or billing work.
The field staff must be provided with sufficient number of the PPEs so that they do not contract infection while restoring electrical faults in the red zones. Similarly, the billing centers must be readjusted and temporary arrangements of restraining the entry of public and channelling the queries through a single window on analogy of a testing facility should be provided in all the billing centers across PDD. The administration should immediately take up necessary measures in order to restore confidence about safety among the employees in general.
The PDD employees are working on front line maintaining the essential power supply 24X 7 to all the hospitals, quarintine centers and even public at large has not faced any issues of electricity interruptions on account of the extra vigil maintained by the dedicated field staff of PDD.But at the same time, the safety and health of these front line team members of PDD cant be left attended.
The Union members appealed the MD JPDCL, Yasha Mudgal to take necessary safety and health audit of all the Sub Divsions across PDD in order to immediately arrange for providing the necessary items for the field staff.
