SAMBA, June 30: During this hot Summer, the people of Samba and its adjoining areas are facing lot of trouble due to the unscheduled power cuts but the authorities at the helm of affairs are in deep slumber and have failed to restore the regular power supply.
For last three days, the Power Development Department (PDD) has adopted new method regarding the unscheduled power cuts in the different places of Samba. People alleged that the Department is continuing unscheduled power cuts during the hot Summer days due to which they are facing lot of trouble. The old age persons and newly born babies are worst sufferers but there seems to be no end to the unscheduled power cuts. The people also said that due to the COVID Pandemic they come out of their homes only to buy important goods or to do necessary work and mostly remain in doors but due to the power cuts it is unbearable to sit in a room inside in such a high and humid temperature.
They further said that for the last three days they are not getting proper power supply and the unscheduled power cuts have remained same during the morning and night time. This morning the Department cut the power supply in Samba town at around 6 am and did not restore it up to a long time. On the one hand the people are already facing lot of trouble due to COVID Pandemic and on the other the PDD has increased people’s problems by the unscheduled power cuts, they added.
Sahil Kumar a resident of Samba said that the Department has also installed the electricity meters in the town and people are also paying the bills but after paying the electricity bill, they do not get the regular power supply. Although the officers of the Department better know the problem but they fail to resolve the issue. The Department has not fixed the time of power cuts but officials are enforcing cuts on their own in an arbitrary way.
A farmer Karan Kumar from border village Glar Samba while talking with Excelsior said that the work of planting rice crop is going on, but due to unscheduled power cuts, farmers in the border area are also facing a lot of difficulties because while planting rice nursery they need water. If the system remains the same then in coming days their rice crop would not be planted. He further said that the PDD is continously sending the electricity bills to the consumers but they do not get the proper power supply.
They warned if the system remains the same then in coming days people will be forced to come on road and lodge strong protest demonstration against the PDD. They sought the intervention of Lt Governor G C Murmu in the matter.
