SAMBA, Aug 19: The poultry traders today staged a protest demonstration against the Traffic Police for the extortion of money from the traders on different Nakkas.
The poultry traders gathered at Samba -Mansar -Dhar road near Nud and held a protest demonstration against the Traffic police. They raised slogans against the officers of the Traffic Police and alleged that one of the traffic police officers harassed them. They said every vehicle carrying poultry bird is charged from Rs 500 to Rs 1500 at every naka and if they fail to pay the same then they along with the vehicle are detained. They said that the illegal extortion takes place especially in the evening hours.
They said that they have already suffered due to the Corona Pandemic, but now the Traffic Police is further harassing and fleecing them on the name of entry fees.
The traders appealed the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to immediately remove the traffic Nakkas and also look into the matter.
While supporting the protestors, Sarpanch, Lablu Sambyal said that in the wake of Toll Tax, the administration has closed the Samba Mansar road for large load carrier vehicles, due to which they face a lot of trouble. It route is also a short way to Srinagar but the traffic personnel standing near Mansar Morh do not let the truck drivers to take that route. Lablu Sambyal urged the Lieutenant Governor that the trucks should be allowed to via the Mansar route. He has also demanded strict action against those who extort money illegally at traffic points.
Diggu Singh, Mohinder Singh Mankotia, Subhash Singh, Sikander, Gurdev Singh, Naresh and Monu were among prominent who participated in the protest.
