Pot shot at CAG

Sir,
“Tewari takes pot shot at CAG on 2G loss figures” DE May 21. It is a rare occurance that the Govt, which invariably used to hold CAG reports as authentic, is questioning its reliability because it is touching its own skin. Mr Rai, the CAG who  retired on 22-5-2013 was invited to a public debate on the loss estimated by him, warned by the Information and Broadcasting Minister against revealing facts and contents of the debate held by him with JPC on this issue. CAG is not a trading corporate body to guide on auctioning. It is an auditing authority to point out errors, delays, and non-compliance of rules and adopted procedures. While asking why RS 1.78 lakh crore was not generated in the 2G auction held later, the Minister is concealing that the auction was not held for the total spectra, it was arranged by the defaulters with efforts to save themselves and there was a time lag which could also have its effect. CAG does not work individually, he heads a department who have explained in their report which has already been discussed in the JPC.
Yours etc…..
